Asian countries Status

  1. Singapore

Companies in Singapore are mostly still open. The government issued an advisory on the appropriate workplace measures to guide employers to continue running their operations while minimizing risks of community spread of the COVID-19. Overall, the Government urges employers to be flexible and supportive of their employees’ needs during this period. Employees are urged to cooperate with their employers. Both employers and employees are strongly encouraged to take precautionary steps according to advisories issued by the government.

 

  1. Indonesia

The government in capital city, Jakarta, issued a regulation that companies within the area should temporarily close their operations and conduct homestay work rules for their employees. Meanwhile, for other area, there is no such regulation and companies operate relatively normally.

 

  1. Philippines

Following DTI guideline (*), all manufacturing, retail, and service establishments shall remain in operation amid the community quarantine being implemented in Metro Manila, subject to certain restrictions. Mass gatherings by business establishments such as, but not limited to, general assemblies, large meetings or conferences, outdoor events that attract large crowds, and non-essential work-related gatherings shall be restricted. Their respective personnel shall work on applicable flexible working arrangements pursuant to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Advisory No. 09, Series of 2020. These arrangements include telecommuting, homework, reduction of workdays/hours, rotation of workers, and forced leave, among others.

 

(*) DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) releases March 16th 2020, Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 20-04, Series of 2020, prescribing the implementing guidelines for business operations following previously issued Resolution No. 12 by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

 

  1. Vietnam

Business in Vietnam operates normally although the authorities in Vietnam have been applying strict regulations for the citizens in order to minimize the spread of Covid-19.

 

 

  1. Thailand

Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, imposed a partial shutdown after novel coronavirus cases surged past 400 with a rising number of people in critical condition. Malls in Bangkok are closed, and shops offering food and essential services are among the few that can remain open. The restrictions will last from March 22 to April 12. Schools and universities, along with many entertainment and recreation venues, are closed. Meanwhile, restaurants and food outlets offering delivery or takeaway services, hypermarkets and fresh markets remain open.  Eateries in hotels are open for hotel guests only.

 

  1. Laos

Companies remain open while numerous international and private schools have been closed for the time being.

The country has sealed off Golden Triangle road borders with China and Myanmar and suspended flights to China.

 

  1. Myanmar & Brunei

Business in these two countries operates relatively normal.

Stricter rules apply in the border where visitors from some areas were barred from entering the countries.

 

  1. Malaysia

Malaysia is under a lockdown situation. Companies are closed at least until March 31st. A comprehensive restriction on movements and public gatherings including a ban on all religious, sports, social, and cultural activities has been applied, as well as cancelled all Education Ministry programs.
